So, before we get into these, I should say I’ve not yet tested any of these unusual uses for mayonnaise. They are all ideas thrown up by the internet, but they seem do-able and it’s a great way to use up mayo that’s past it’s best before date.
1. Repair scratched wood
I’ve seen this many times and I’m planning to give it a go. Apply some mayo to a scratch on a wooden table or chair. Rub a good amount into the scratch and wipe off any excess. Leave. It should make the scratch less noticeable.
If anyone has tried this one, please let me know. I have used brown crayons and pens on scratches before and those both worked, but this one sounds like a good idea too.

2. Remove those pesky stickers
Here’s one for those of you who, like me, hate trying to get stickers and price tags off of items. Use a small amount of mayonnaise and smear it over a sticker or price tag on glass, cups/mugs or plates. Leave for a few minutes and then try and get the sticker off. It should peel right off.
I’ve definitely got to try this one.
3. Hair conditioner
I have friends who have tried this and it does work. Rub mayonnaise into the dry ends of your hair and leave for 15 minutes. Then rinse off and shampoo as usual.
Another great thing to use on dry ends is coconut oil. You rub a little bit through the ends of your hair and leave it.

4. Skin softener
Mix a teaspoon of olive oil with some mayonnaise and apply to dry skin. Leave it for five minutes and rinse off. Your skin should feel lovely and soft.
5. Cuticle softener
Mayo is also supposed to be a really great moisturiser for your cuticles. Apply a little bit to your cuticles, massage in and rinse. Lovely.
6. Houseplant polish
I like the idea of this one and will try it. Add a dab of mayo on to the leaves of your house plants and massage it in. Buff off with a clean cloth.
7. Getting bubble gum out of your hair or the carpet
So, if you’re having issues getting gum out of your hair or carpet, apply some mayo and massage it into the gum. Leave for a few minutes and then remove. The oils in the mayo should help loosen the gum.

8. Use it to polish silver
Dab some may onto your silverware and then rub in with a soft cloth. Rinse off and your silver will be all shiny and gorgeous.
9. Silence the squeak
Got a squeaky door and no WD40? Add some mayo to the squeaky hinge and it should go away. Remember to wipe off any excess.
10. And finally, remove that stuck ring
If you can’t get your ring off, massage mayo into the ring and finger. The mayo should make the ring slippy and it should come right off.

Top Tip
If you’ve got a blocked sink, put some bicarbonate of soda down the drain and then add white vinegar. The mixture will fizz up. Leave for a little while, then rinse with clean water.
